Amherst Runs Away for 84-51 Win at Farmingdale State

FARMINGDALE, NY - The third-ranked Amherst College women's basketball team ran away from the Rams of Farmingdale State College this evening, cashing in on an 84-51 win in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Lord Jeffs (16-1) shot 49% from the field and assisted on 24 of their 33 field goals in the victory.

At halftime, Amherst held a 46-22 advantage after shooting a blazing 55% from the field. Junior guard Kim Fiorentino (Holmdel, N.J.) led the Lord Jeffs with nine points in the half, while senior guard Juanita Chappel  and junior guard Shemique Hooks  each scored eight points in the frame for Farmingdale State (10-5).

In the second half, the Rams were outscored 38-29, eventually falling 84-51. Ram sophomore guard Nikita Green scored a team-high 13 points for the Rams, while Chappel finished with 12.

Amherst was led by senior co-captain Jaci Daigneault (Guilford, CT) who shot 11-for-14 from the field to score a game- and career-high 24 points. Junior guard Caroline Stedman (Walpole, MA) pitched in with 12 points and four assists and Shannon Finucane (Cortland, N.Y.) had a game-high five assists for the Lord Jeffs.

Amherst will return to action on Saturday afternoon for a 4 p.m. home against Trinity College in NESCAC action.
