Daigneault Once Again Named NESCAC Co-Player of the Week
AMHERST, MA – Amherst College senior co-captain Jaci Daigneault (Guilford, CT) has been named NESCAC Women’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week for helping the Lord Jeffs finish their regular season with an unblemished conference record.
Daigneault averaged 18.5 points and 10.5 rebounds on 55.2 percent shooting (16-of-29) during a 2-0 weekend that gave Amherst the No. 1 seed in the upcoming NESCAC Championship. During a 63-43 win at Middlebury Daigneault had 21 points and nine boards, adding a block and a steal while shooting 8-of-14 from the floor. She followed with 16 points and 12 rebounds the next day at Williams, shooting 8-of-15 with one assist, a block and two steals to help the Jeffs bump their win streak against the Ephs to seven games.
This is Daigneault’s third Player of the Week honor of the season and fifth of her outstanding career. Heading into the postseason she leads the NESCAC in scoring (15.1 ppg) and field goal percentage (.627), also ranking sixth in steals per game (2.17), seventh in rebounding (6.9 rpg) and 10th in blocks per game (1.04). Her dominant stats have helped the Lord Jeffs finish at 9-0 in conference play for the second consecutive season, as Amherst has earned the No. 1 seed in three of the past four years.
Daigneault is still moving up the Amherst record books, currently ranking fifth all-time in points (1,173), sixth in rebounds (621) and seventh in blocks (73). She and the Lord Jeffs will return to action Saturday, Feb. 26, when they host Trinity in the NESCAC Championship quarterfinals at 4 p.m.
Sharing Player of the Week honors with Daigneault is Tufts University’s Collier Clegg, who averaged 22.0 points and 6.0 rebounds during a 2-0 week for the Jumbos.
