Daigneault Grabs Fourth NESCAC Player of the Week Honor

AMHERST, MA – Amherst College senior forward Jaci Daigneault ’11 (Guilford, CT) has been named NESCAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for leading the Lord Jeffs to their third conference title in four years.

The conference’s Player of the Week honor has become synonymous with Daigneault, who has earned the award four times this season and six times in her career. Daigneault and Colby College’s Sarah Walsh ’03 are the only two players in conference history to earn the honor four times in a season. Olivia Zurek ’05 of Bates was also named NESCAC Player of the Week six times in her career, while Walsh holds the conference record with seven selections.

Daigneault averaged 14.5 points and 8.5 rebounds during the final two rounds of the NESCAC Championship, adding four steals, two blocks and three assists without committing a turnover. The senior co-captain shot 66.7 percent from the floor (12-of-18) and averaged only 25.5 minutes per game.

In Amherst’s 71-64 semifinal victory over Williams—the Jeffs’ third win against the Ephs this season—Daigneault had 10 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal while hitting four of her seven shots. In the title game against Bowdoin, she added 19 points, seven boards, three steals and an assist, shooting 4-of-4 in the second half and 8-of-11 overall to help Amherst cruise to a 72-37 win.

A 2009 NESCAC All-Conference First Team selection, Daigneault is in the running for the conference’s Player of the Year honor. The All-Conference Team will be announced Wednesday, Mar. 2.
