KEENE, NH – The top-ranked Amherst College women’s basketball team defeated Keene State College in non-conference action led by the one-two punch of Jaci Daigneault (Guilford, CT) and Shannon Finucane (Cortland, NY).  The Lord Jeffs led 50-21 at the half before cruising to an 85-44 win.

Finucane scored a game-high 21 points in just 24 minutes of action, finishing the night just one point short of her career-high. The Amherst junior made 8-of-12 shots in the game, including 5-of-9 from behind the arc. Daigneault was equally impressive, knocking down 8-of-11 attempts for 18 points in 21 minutes.

Keene State falls to 2-3 on the year with the loss, while Amherst, which made consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament final four the past two years, remains undefeated, improving to 5-0. Keene’s Courtney Cirilo had 16 points and Samantha Hemmingway had a season high 10 points and six rebounds to lead the Owls.

The Lord Jeffs broke the game open early with an 8-0 run to go up 26-9 after junior Kim Fiorentino (Holmdel, N.H.) fed Daigneault for a lay-up at the 9:43 mark. Displaying good ball movement and taking advantage of 21 first half turnovers by the Owls, Amherst added to its lead.

Finucane, who finished with 18 first half points, including four three-pointers, scored eight straight points to put the Lord Jeffs up 41-19. Sophomore Jasmine Hardy (Meriden, N.H.) hit a three-pointer at the halftime buzzer to give Amherst a 50-21 lead heading into the locker room.

Finucane, who hit eight of her 12 shots from the field, finished with a game high 21 points for the Lord Jeffs. Daigneault added 18 points and sophomore Marcia Voigt (Skillman, N.J.) chipped in with 11 points.  Amherst connected on 14 of its 35 three-point attempts and hit nine of its 11 shots from the line.

The Lord Jeffs will return to campus before hosting Emerson on Saturday at 8 p.m. to wrap the first day of the 2010 Amherst Classic. Amherst will face either Richard Stockton or York (NY) on Sunday.
