Jaci Daigneault '11 Named NESCAC Co-Player of the Week

AMHERST, MA – The New England Small College Athletic Conference named Amherst College senior Jaci Daigneault (Guilford, CT) the Women’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week this afternoon for her play during a 3-0 week for the Lord Jeffs. Daigneault, a 2009 All-American who shares this week’s award with Williams College’s Chessie Jackson, has returned to form this year after battling injuries as a junior to lead top-ranked Amherst to a 10-0 start.

Daigneault had another banner week as Amherst picked up wins over Emmanuel College, Eastern Connecticut State University and at CUNY -Lehman. Daigneault led Amherst in points (16.3) and rebounds (6.3) per game during the week. She shot 70 percent from the floor (23-for-33) with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 4-to-1 while averaging only 25 minutes per game.

In the team’s toughest test of the season, Daigneault poured in 20 second-half points against Emmanuel to finish with 22, helping the Jeffs overcome a 32-30 halftime deficit. She also added nine rebounds (six offensive) in the game, shooting 10-for-15 from the floor.

Daigneault then helped Amherst hand ECSU its first loss of the season by scoring 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting, adding six boards. Despite playing only 15 minutes (only four in the second half), Daigneault finished with 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals in a win at Lehman, shooting 6-for-8 from the field.

Through 10 games, Daigneault is leading Amherst in scoring with 13.7 points-per-game, while ranking second on the team in rebounds (5.9 rpg).  She is also tied for the team lead in blocks (9) and ranks second in steals (23) by just a single take-away. Daigneault has been particularly efficient for an offense where playing time is at a premium with the Jeffs blowing out so many opponents. In just 19.8 minutes per game, Daigneault has made her time count by shooting a 63.6% from the field for the season.

Daigneault and the Lord Jeffs will close out the first semester tomorrow evening against Springfield College at home. The 7 p.m. game from LeFrak Gymnasium will feature a live webcast, courtesy of JeffCast, and live statistics.
