Atanga McCormick Named NESCAC Player of the Week

Lem Atanga McCormick '12 hit the 1,000-point plateau during a 2-0 week for the Lord Jeffs.

HADLEY, Mass. - Senior Lem Atanga McCormick (Chicago, Ill.) has been named the NESCAC women’s basketball Player of the Week after helping the top-ranked Lord Jeffs to a pair of wins at the Classic in Las Vegas, Nev.

The Chicago, Ill. native opened the Classic with a 10-point, nine-rebound effort in a 67-37 win over Concordia. Atanga McCormick then notched 17 points on 7-for-14 shooting, becoming just the 11th player in program history to crack the 1,000-point plateau in a 109-39 victory over WPI.

Adding eight rebounds and two assists in just 21 minutes of action against the Engineers, she finished tournament play averaging 13.5 points and 8.5 rebounds. Atanga McCormick currently ranks third on the team in points (12.3) and rebounds (6.1) per game.

Amherst returns to action on Friday, Jan. 6 against Little Three rival Wesleyan.
