SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Marcia Voigt ’13 picked up her second NESCAC Player of the Week honor of the season after helping the Lord Jeffs to their fourth consecutive conference championship.
Entering Saturday’s semifinal showdown with Bowdoin just five points shy of the 1,000-point plateau, Voigt knocked down a pair of triples in the game’s opening minutes to become just the 14th player in program history to reach the benchmark. Finishing with 14 points, eight assists, four rebounds and three steals, the senior helped the Jeffs punch a ticket to their sixth straight league title game with a 60-45 victory over Bowdoin.
Shooting just 1-for-10 in the first half of Championship Sunday against Williams, Voigt regrouped and netted 19 of her game-high 21 points in the second stanza. With teammate Megan Robertson ’15 saddled with foul trouble and forced to sit with four fouls just 4:05 into the second half, Voigt picked up the slack, scoring 14 of the Jeffs’ next 19 points, helping to turn a two-point deficit into a 43-32 lead with just over seven minutes to play. Also chipping in with five steals and five rebounds she helped spearhead a swarming Amherst defense that forced 26 Eph turnovers while collecting a season-high 18 steals.
Averaging 17.5 points, 5.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 steals over the weekend, Voigt currently ranks amongst the league leaders in scoring (13.2 ppg), while topping the NESCAC in helpers (4.2).
