9th-Ranked Lord Jeffs Rally For 2-1 Win at Skidmore

erase a one-goal deficit in a win at Skidmore.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The 9th-ranked Amherst College men's hockey team scored a pair of third-period goals this evening to rally for a 2-1 win over Skidmore College at the Saratoga City Rink. The Thoroughbreds fall to 7-9-0 overall and 6-4-0 in the league, while the Lord Jeffs improve to 11-2-2 overall and 6-2-2 in league play.
With the win, the Lord Jeffs moved into a tie for first place in the NESCAC standings with Bowdoin College (9-4-0, 7-3-0). Amherst is the lone team in the NESCAC with at least 10 wins on the season.
After a scoreless first period, sophomore Tyler Doremus got Skidmore on the board when he got a pass in front of the net and beat Amherst goalie Cole Anderson (Sylvan Lake, Alberta) at the 10:29 mark of the second period. The Thoroughbreds almost made it 2-0, but Anderson robbed Alex Mykolenko on a breakaway late in the second frame.
Eddie Effinger (Belleville, IL) led the Lord Jeffs’ charge in the third period and tied the game when he found the puck in a crowd in front of the net and beat Skidmore goalie Colin Bessey at the 8:13 mark. Effinger scored his second goal of the game to give Amherst the 2-1 lead when beat Bessey on the power play with 4:34 to play in regulation.
Bessey made 19 saves on 21 shots for the Thoroughbreds and Anderson finished with 18 saves for the Lord Jeffs. Amherst returns to action tomorrow when it travels to Castleton State College at 3 p.m.
