Rhone's Four Points Lead Amherst to 4-0 Win at St. Anselm

MANCHESTER, NH – Matt Rhone ’11 (Dedham, MA) had a goal and three assists to lead the Amherst College men’s hockey team to a 4-0 win at Saint Anselm College Saturday afternoon. The Lord Jeffs improve to 11-7-4 (9-5-3 NESCAC) and move into sole possession of fourth place in the conference standings.
Amherst started the day tied with Bowdoin for fourth in the NESCAC, but the Polar Bears dropped to fifth with a 6-3 loss to Wesleyan today. In the standings the Lord Jeffs are right behind Hamilton, Middlebury and Williams, which are all tied for first.
Saturday’s result marked the 11th consecutive meeting between Amherst and Saint Anselm in which the visiting team came away with the win. The Lord Jeffs will return to action Friday, Feb. 18, when they travel to take on Babson College.
Amherst held a 40-15 advantage in shots over Saint Anselm (10-8-2), with Cole Anderson '11 (Sylvan Lake, Alberta) picking up the win by playing the first 54:20 in net.
Andrew Kurlandski '14 (Kirkwood, MO) provided the only goal of the first period, giving the Jeffs a 1-0 lead 3:50 into the game thanks to assists from Rhone and Eddie Effinger '12 (Belleville, IL). Jeremy Deutsch '12 (Huntington, NY) made it 2-0 25 seconds into the second period, with assists again going to Rhone and Effinger.
Effinger scored a goal of his own 6:21 later, this time with Rhone and Kurlandski getting credit for the assists. The Jeffs' fourth goal came on the power play 4:57 into the third period, with Nick Brunette '13 (Chaska, MN) and Mike Moher '13 (Toronto, Ontario) setting up Rhone.
