Mike McIntosh Named NESCAC Player of the Week
Senior Mike McIntosh and the Lord Jeffs will battle for the NESCAC title this weekend at Colby College.
AMHERST, MA – Amherst College senior defenseman Mike McIntosh (Soldotna, AK) has been named the NESCAC Men’s Ice Hockey Player of the Week for scoring the game-winning goal in overtime during Saturday’s quarterfinal contest against Connecticut College in the 2008 NESCAC Championship. The victory put the Lord Jeffs in the conference semifinals for the second year in a row.
Amherst carried a 2-0 lead into the second period of Saturday’s game, but the visiting fifth-seeded Camels stormed back to net a goal in each of the second and third periods, sending the game into overtime. Just two minutes and seven seconds into the extra frame, McIntosh found the back of the net and kept his team's season alive.
The overtime tally marked McIntosh's second game-winner of the season, while his four goals and 12 assists place him tied for fifth in points on Amherst. This is the first Player of the Week honor for Amherst this season and the first of McIntosh's career.
The Lord Jeffs will travel to Colby College to take on second-seeded Middlebury College Saturday at 4 p.m. in the second semifinal game. The top-seeded White Mules will host sixth-seeded Trinity College Saturday at 1 p.m.
