Junior Keith Nelson was named the NESCAC Player of the Week.
AMHERST, MA – The New England Small College Athletic Conference named Amherst College junior forward Keith Nelson (Manalapan, N.J.) the Men’s Ice Hockey Player of the Week this afternoon. The award is the first of the season for any Lord Jeff player, and also is the first of Nelson’s career.

Nelson was given the weekly award for his hand in a pair of wins for Amherst this weekend. Nelson and the Lord Jeffs posted a 7-1 win at UMass-Boston on Friday night, before picking up a 6-3 road win at Babson on Saturday.

Nelson collected two goals and five assists for seven points during the 2-0-0 weekend. Nelson tallied a goal and three assists at UMass-Boston, before adding a goal and two assists during the win at Babson.

After ten games and a very productive weekend, Nelson has a team-high 11 points this season. Amherst improved to 4-1-1 in NESCAC/ECAC East play, and is 6-3-1 overall. The Jeffs started the season with a pair of losses in their first three games, but have since gone 5-1-1 in the last seven games.

Amherst sits in a two-way tie with NESCAC and Little Three archrival Williams College in the current conference standings, and is just one win behind national powerhouse Middlebury for first place.

Nelson and the Jeffs will host Hamilton College tomorrow night in a rare mid-week conference game at Orr Rink in Amherst. The puck is set to drop for that game at 7 p.m.
