Jeffs Take 3-1 Win at Tufts to Win Seventh in the Last Eight Games

MEDFORD, MA - The Amherst College men's ice hockey team picked up a 3-1 NESCAC win at Tufts University this afternoon to improve to 11-4-1 (9-2-1) on the year. Amherst has a three game win streak in tact, and has won seven of the last eight games it has played in.

Amherst jumped out to a 1-0 lead with 13:09 to play in the first period as senior Will Collins (Edina, MN) scored a short-handed goal for the Lord Jeffs. Collins was assisted by senior captain Jeff Landers (Hanover, MA) and sophomore Trip Wray (Walpole, MA) on the score.

The Lord Jeffs doubled their lead less than six minutes later when junior Teddy Vickers (Chilliwack, BC) scored a power-play goal. Landers picked up his second helper of the night on the eventual game-winner, with the other assist going to classmate Brendan Powers (Walpole, MA).

Early in the second period, Amherst extended its lead to 3-0 0n a score from senior Rylan Burns (Jasper, AB), with assists going to first-year Mark Colp (Wareham, MA) and Keith Nelson (Manalapan, NJ). The Jumbos grabbed a goal back with 8:44 to play in the period, as Evan Story scored on assists from Zach Diaco and Cory Korchin.

Amherst dominated the game from start to finish, out-shooting Tufts 54-25 on the night. Amherst goaltender Jonathan La Rose (Boyle, AB) made 24 saves in net for the win.
