Amherst Wins Fourth Straight, Earns 7-1 Win at Conn.

NEW LONDON, CT – Amherst College senior captain Jeff Landers (Hanover, MA) had a goal and three assists to lead the Lord Jeffs (12-4-1, 10-2-1 NESCAC) to a 7-1 victory at Connecticut College (9-6-3, 5-5-3 NESCAC) Saturday in men’s ice hockey action. Amherst extended its winning streak to four games while halting the Camels six-game unbeaten streak in the process.
The Jeffs are 8-1-0 in their last nine games and are 10-2-1 since starting the season at 1-2-0. Amherst and Middlebury finish the weekend in a tie for first place in the NESCAC standings.
Senior Brendan Powers (Walpole, MA) and Will Collins (Edina, MN) each contributed a goal and an assist for the visitors, who out-shot the Camels 41-to-29 in the contest. Senior Ben Eischen (Brookfield, NH) accounted for the Connecticut College offense with a first period score.
Amherst took control of the game midway through the first period. Landers potted his fifth goal of the season to tie the game. On the ensuing faceoff, the Lord Jeffs controlled and took a 2-1 lead with Powers’ unassisted tally.
Luke Arnold (Lexington, MA) added an insurance goal with 1:50 remaining in the first and the Lord Jeffs were well on their way to the 7-1 win.
Sophomore net-minder Cole Anderson (Eckville, AB) had 28 saves in the victory. Greg Parker (Trenton, ONT) had 28 stops for the Camels. Andrew Margolin (Mahwah, NJ) made six saves in his first action of the season.
The Lord Jeffs return to action Friday, Feb. 6, when they host Colby College at 7 p.m.
