Landers Named NESCAC Co-Player of the Week
AMHERST, MA – Amherst College senior Jeff Landers (Hanover, MA) has been named the NESCAC Men’s Ice Hockey Co-Player of the Week for leading the Lord Jeffs to a pair of victories this past weekend. Landers joins Ryan Purdy of Williams College as this week’s honorees.
As the lone captain of this year’s team, Landers continued his impressive senior season with six points on a goal and five assists during an impressive 2-0-0 weekend for the Lord Jeffs, who moved into a two-way tie for first place in the NESCAC standings.
After earning two assists—including one on the game-winner—in a 3-1 win at Tufts Friday night, Landers scored a goal and added three assists during a convincing 7-1 win at Connecticut College Saturday afternoon. Landers leads Amherst in scoring with five goals and 17 helpers for 22 points.
The Lord Jeffs got off to a disappointing 1-2-0 start this season, with both losses coming in shutout fashion. Since then, however, Amherst is 11-2-1 and today was ranked 13th in the USCHO.com national top-15 poll. The Jeffs are riding a four-game winning streak and have won eight of their last nine. With a 10-2-1 conference record, Amherst is tied with sixth-ranked Middlebury at the top of the standings.
Landers and the rest of the Amherst squad return to action Friday, Feb. 6, when they host Colby College at 7 p.m.
