Zukas Named NESCAC Co-Player of the Week
AMHERST, MA – Amherst College junior defenseman Randi Zukas (Glen Head, NY) has been named the NESCAC Women’s Ice Hockey Co-Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Zukas had a hand in six goals during a pivotal 2-0 weekend to help the second-ranked Lord Jeffs secure the top seed in the upcoming NESCAC Championship.
Zukas scored a goal and assisted on five others in a pair of wins over archrival Williams College, as the Jeffs improved to 17-2-4 overall and 12-1-3 in conference play. Sharing the Co-Player of the Week honor is Trinity College’s Dominique DiDia, who had five assists during a 2-0 weekend to help the Bantams (17-3-2, 9-3-2 NESCAC) earn a home game in the NESCAC quarterfinal round.
In Friday night’s 6-3 win at Williams, Zukas assisted on the only goal of the first period and scored 48 seconds into the second frame to help the Lord Jeffs jump out to a 2-0 lead. During an 8-0 win over the Ephs the following day, Zukas assisted on Amherst’s fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth goals, with each of her last three coming in the third period. With three assists against Bowdoin last Saturday, Zukas has recorded nine points in her past three games.
With five goals and 18 assists this season, Zukas ranks second on Amherst in points and third in Division III in defenseman scoring (1.10 ppg). An All-NESCAC Second Team selection in each of her first two seasons, Zukas has 54 career points on 12 goals and 42 assists.
An Amherst skater has won at least a share of the NESCAC Player of the Week honor in three of the past four weeks. The Lord Jeffs will wrap up their regular season Saturday, Feb. 20, when they host Norwich University at 7:30 p.m. Amherst will host either Colby or Wesleyan Feb. 27 in the conference quarterfinals.
