MIDDLETOWN, CT -- Behind a pair of goals from junior Megan Curry (Shorewood, MN), defending national champion Amherst College (2-0-0) earned a 7-0 victory over Wesleyan University (0-2-0) Saturday afternoon. Amherst has won its first two games, both against Wesleyan, by a combined score of 15-0 and has now won 13 straight against Wesleyan. Amherst is also unbeaten in its last 44 NESCAC regular-season games with the victory.
Amherst jumped on the board at the 7:46 mark of the first period as senior Michelle McGann (New Berlin, WI) sent a one-timer from the left side of the goal past the glove of Wesleyan freshman goalkeeper Ashleigh Corvi. Lord Jeff sophomore Emily Vitale (Cheshire, CT) set up the opening goal. Amherst fired 19 shots on net in the period--part of a 57-2 advantage in shots--but 18 saves by Corvi made it 1-0 at the first intermission.

Amherst extended its margin to 2-0 in the second on a power-play goal off the stick of Curry 5:21 into the second frame. Junior Braidie Campbell (Surrey, BC) and sophomore Josie Fisher (Norwich, VT) recorded assists on Curry's goal.

Amherst broke the game open with a five-goal third period. Curry got things started at the 5:17 mark with her fourth goal of the season, and Vitale added her first marker just 41 seconds later. Junior Courtney Hanlon (Fullerton, CA) made it 5-0 at 8:46 with a power-play tally. Amherst added a pair of goals 17 seconds apart late in the period, the first coming off the stick of senior Kate Dennett (Highlands Ranch, CO) and the second courtesy of junior Randi Zukas (Glen Head, NY).

Corvi finished with 50 saves in the Wesleyan net, giving her 109 in two games this season. Sophomore Sinead Murphy (Rochester, MN) stopped both Wesleyan shots in the Amherst net for her second career shutout.

Amherst returns to action with a Monday night game at New England College, while Wesleyan travels to Hamilton Saturday, Nov. 28 for its next contest.
