HENNIKER, NH – Playing in its third road game in four days, the top-ranked Amherst College women’s ice hockey team earned a 4-1 win at New England College Monday evening. The defending national champion Lord Jeffs (3-0-0, 2-0-0 NESCAC) have outscored opponents by a 19-1 margin this season.

Sophomore Josie Fisher (Norwich, VT) scored two goals for Amherst—including the game winner in the second period—for her third and fourth points of the season. Senior tri-captain Kirsten Dier (Appleton, WI) and first-year Geneva Lloyd (Calgary, Alberta) each bumped their season assist totals to five by recording two helpers apiece against the Pilgrims (4-4-0).

Amherst would strike early as junior tri-captain Courtney Hanlon (Fullerton, CA) scored on a Lord Jeff power play, with assists going to Randi Zukas (Glen Head, NY) and Lloyd just 3:41 into the first period. NEC’s Jessica Donnelly knotted the game at 1-1 at the 13:54 mark as she would fight through two defenders and bounce in a shot unassisted.

The Lord Jeffs would regain their lead just 54 seconds into the second period as Fisher took a pass from Dier and put home a shot in the upper right corner. Neither team would score again in the second frame, but Amherst tacked on two goals in the final period, including one by first-year Megan Doyen (Ortonville, MI) and a power-play goal by Fisher to build the 4-1 lead.

Amherst’s potent offense ripped 40 shots on net, while its defense held the Pilgrims to only 10. Picking up the win in net for Amherst was Caroline Hu (Cerritos, CA), who finished with nine saves. NEC’s Teraysa White stopped 36 shots on the evening.

The Lord Jeffs will play in their home opener Friday, Dec. 4, when they host Trinity College at 7 p.m. Amherst and Trinity will return to the ice at Orr Rink for a 3 p.m. game the following day.
