Randi Zukas '11 Named NESCAC Player of the Week
AMHERST, MA – Amherst College senior defenseman Randi Zukas (Glen Head, NY) has been named the NESCAC Women’s Ice Hockey Player of the Week for playing a pivotal role in helping the Lord Jeffs move into a tie for first place in the conference standings this past weekend.
This is the second career Player of the Week honor for Zukas, who scored two goals and assisted four others during a 3-0-0 week for the Jeffs. She began her week by scoring a goal that gave Amherst a 1-0 lead against Saint Anselm, adding an assist on the next goal to help the Jeffs cruise to a 5-1 win. After dishing out an assist during a 1-0 win at Hamilton on Saturday night, Zukas had a hand in her team’s first three goals during Sunday’s 4-3 victory over the Continentals. She also led a defensive unit that held Hamilton scoreless for 100 minutes and 31 seconds before allowing the first goal of the weekend.
Zukas is a three-time All-NESCAC selection, and last year she became the first All-America First Team honoree in program history. She currently leads the conference in assists (11), while her 0.88-points-per-game average ranks second in Division III among defensemen. She has scored 16 goals and assisted 59 others for 75 career points.
The Lord Jeffs will return to action Friday, Jan. 28, when they host Colby College at 7 p.m.
