7th-Ranked Lord Jeffs Upset 4th-Ranked Elmira on the Road

ELMIRA, NY - The seventh-ranked Amherst College women's ice hockey team went on the road this evening and completed an upset of fourth-ranked Elmira College with a 3-2 result. The Lord Jeffs improved to 9-3-2 with the win.
Amherst fell behind 1-0 just 6:43 into the first period when Elmira's Jenna McCall put home a power-play score. Farren Hart and Kayla Coady assisted on the 5-on-4 power play after Amherst sophomore Kristen Dier (Appleton, WI) was whistled for hooking.
Amherst was unable to find the equalizer in the opening frame, and was outshot by a 15-7 margin. The Lord Jeffs tied the game up on an unassisted score from first-year Braidie Campell (Surrey, B.C.) early in the second frame.
Amherst points leader Tarasai Karega (Detroit, MI) netted the go-ahead goal on helpers from Molly Malloy (Stamford, CT) and Courtney Hanlon (Fullerton, CA 8:59 into period.
With 6:32 remaining in the middle stanza, Elmira's Melanie Henshaw tied the game on the Eagles' second power play goal of the night.
Amherst stole the game just :39 seconds into the third period on a goal from Michelle McGann (New Berlin, WI). Karega assisted on the score once again. Amherst was outshot 40-30 on the night, but goaltender Krystyn Elek (Summerville, S.C.) made 38 saves.
Amherst improves to 9-3-2 with the win, and remains 6-0-2 in conference play after the non-conference tilt. The Jeffs stay on the road with a 3 p.m. game at SUNY-Cortland tomorrow.
