Jeffs Blank Cortland, 7-0, for Fifth Straight Win

Sophomore Kirsten Dier tallied three assists in the Jeffs' 7-0 win at Cortland State.

CORTLAND, NY - Six different players scored goals to lead the nationally seventh-ranked Amherst College women's ice hockey team to a 7-0 victory over Cortland State Saturday afternoon at Alumni Arena. The Lord Jeffs improved to 10-3-2 with the win, while the Red Dragons fell to 3-9-3.

Sophomore Michelle McGann (New Berlin, WI) scored a pair of goals for Amherst, while senior Megan Quinn (Wakefield, MA) and first-year Braidie Campbell (Surrey, BC) each contributed a goal and two assists. Sophomores Kate Dennett (Highlands Ranch, CO) and Molly Malloy (Stamford, CT) and first-year Megan Curry (Shorewood, MN) tallied one goal apiece.

Sophomore Kirsten Dier (Appleton, WI) notched three assists, and junior Tarasai Karega (Detroit, MI) added two assists. Sophomore goalie Krystyn Elek (Summerville, SC) turned aside four shots to earn the shutout.

Malloy gave the Lord Jeffs a 1-0 lead at 15 minutes, 37 seconds of the opening period on a rebound goal. Amherst added two more goals in the second period - Quinn on the power play at 6:38 and Curry at even strength at 14:42. The Lord Jeffs sealed the win with a four-goal third period. Campbell and Dennett tallied short-handed goals 48 seconds apart, and McGann scored her first of the game at 8:01 and finished off the scoring with a one-timer in front at 15:39 on the power play.

For Cortland, senior goalie Olivia Nuzzo made a season-high 40 saves as she faced 47 shots in the game.
