First-year Courtney Hanlon had both goals in a 2-1 win.
The 6th-ranked Amherst College women’s hockey team continued its winning ways with a 2-1 victory over visiting Colby College on Friday night before an electric contingency of Amherst fans. With the win, Amherst’s winning streak is now a season-high six games, pushing the Jeffs' record to 11-3-2 overall and 7-0-2 in the conference. With the loss, Colby drops to 8-6-2 (3-3-2).
The Jeffs out-shot the Mules 14-8 in the opening period, including a number of chances on the Colby doorstep, but Colby goalie Lacey Brown kept her team tied heading into the first intermission.
The second period was all Amherst as rookie sensation Courtney Hanlon (Fullerton, CA) netted her sixth goal of the season nine minutes into the frame. Junior co-captain Julie Radziewicz (Orlando, FL) notched an assist on the score. Hanlon struck again with just over a minute to play in the second period when she finished a feed from classmate Braidie Campbell (Surrey, BC).
Colby cut the lead in half seven minutes into the third period after a number of Amherst chances were thwarted by Brown. Becky Julian finished feeds from Colette Finley and Meryl Poulin to give Colby a little momentum. The Amherst defense shut the door late in the game to preserve the victory.
Brown finished with 32 saves while Amherst rookie netminder Caroline Hu (Cerritos, CA) made 15 stops.
Amherst returns to action tomorrow afternoon when the Jeffs welcome NESCAC power Bowdoin College at 3 p.m.
