Courtney Hanlon Named NESCAC Player of the Week

AMHERST, MA – Amherst College first-year forward Courtney Hanlon (Fullerton, CA) was tabbed the NESCAC Women’s Ice Hockey Player of the Week for recording three goals and an assist during a perfect 2-0 weekend for the Lord Jeffs. Hanlon becomes the second member of her team to earn the Player of the Week nod this season.

Friday evening against Colby College, Hanlon scored both Amherst goals in a 2-1 win over the White Mules. Saturday afternoon, she assisted on what proved to be the game-winner before scoring a shorthanded goal in the third period of a 4-0 win over Bowdoin College.

The pair of victories pushed the Jeffs’ winning streak to seven games, a stretch during which Amherst has outscored opponents 35-4. Hanlon has recorded at least one point in each of the past seven games to bring her season totals to eight goals and 11 assists for 19 points. While her 11 assists are the most among Amherst players and third most in the NESCAC, her 19 points are second on the team and second among all first-years in the conference.

The Lord Jeffs (12-3-2/8-0-2 NESCAC) have played their way to the top of the conference standings and are one of only two teams unbeaten in NESCAC play, while Amherst’s 3.82 goals-per-game average is the second highest in the conference.

Hanlon and the Jeffs resume their five-game home stand Friday, Feb. 1 when they host Hamilton College at 4 p.m.
