Amherst Advances to Second Straight NESCAC Title Game

MIDDLEBURY, VT – Amherst will makes its second consecutive trip to the NESCAC Championship game after a 2-1 win over Trinity in a NESCAC semifinal game played at Middlebury. The Jeffs will take on Colby, a 3-2 overtime winner over Middlebury, in the NESCAC Championship on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Amherst opened the scoring with 5:04 left in the first period as Courtney Hanlon (Fullerton, CA) put home her own rebound. An evenly played first period saw Amherst hold a 7-5 shots advantage.

The Jeffs made it a 2-0 game at the 6:23 mark of the second period with a goal from C.C. Wyshnytzky (Hawthorn Woods, IL). Alyssa Chwick (Rye Brook, NY) sent the puck in from the right side that was tipped by Wyshnytzky before apparently deflecting in off a defender’s skate. Trinity cut the lead in half with a power play goal at 11:07 of the second period. Laura Komarek sent the puck in from the left side where Michelle Chee tipped it in for the goal to make it a 2-1 Amherst lead.

Both teams had some quality opportunities to score in the third period, but Isabel Iwachiw of Trinity (29 saves) and Krystyn Elek (Summerville, SC) of Amherst (23 saves) both stood their ground.
