BRUNSWICK, ME - The fourth-ranked Amherst College women's ice hockey team held off Bowdoin College 2-0 on Friday night at Dayton Arena in the season-opener for both squads. Amherst will play at Colby College tomorrow while Bowdoin will host Connecticut College.

In the debut of head coach Stacy Wilson, the Polar Bears and Jeffs played to a draw through two periods. Early in the third, Amherst was finally able to break through as first-year CC Wyshnytzky (Hawthorn Woods, IL) finished off a loose puck in front of the goal at 4:34 to give the visitors the lead. Amherst carried the lead late into the stanza, killing off two third-period penalties and adding an empty-netter courtesy of sophomore Michelle McGann (New Berlin, WI).

Kelly Keebler got the start between the pipes for the Polar Bears and stopped 19 shots. Sophomore Krystyn Elek (Summerville, SC) earned her first shutout of the year by making 20 saves for the Jeffs.
