Fourth-Ranked Lord Jeffs Fall to Top-Ranked Plattsburgh 4-1

PLATTSBURGH, NY - The fourth-ranked Amherst College women's ice hockey team picked up its first loss of the season this evening on the road at top-ranked Plattsburgh State 4-1. The Lord Jeffs fall to 4-1-2 with the result against the Cardinals.
Plattsburgh took a 1-0 lead just 6:37 into the first period on the third goal of the season from Claire O'Connor. Lindsay Brown and Sharis Smith picked up the assists for the Cardinals.
The nation's top-ranked team scored another pair of first stanza goals, spreading the scoring out at the 12th and 18th minute marks. Kayla McDougall scored her second of the year, before Danielle Blanchard added her 15th score of the year.
In the second period, Amherst played neck-and-neck with the Cardinals, with each team registering seven shots and scoring a single goal. McDougall scored her second of the game before Amherst sophomore Molly Malloy (Stamford, CT) scored her third goal of the season to close the gap to 4-1.
Neither team scored a third period goal, as Amherst was unable to climb out of the opening frame hole. The Jeffs fall to 4-1-2 with the loss, while Plattsburgh improves to 10-1. Amherst returns to action on Sunday afternoon when they host Southern Maine at 1 p.m.
