Top-Ranked Jeffs Fall to St. Thomas (MN) 2-1 to End Road Trip
From a St. Thomas (MN) Release
Senior Lindsey Harrington scored Amherst's
only goal in the 2-1 loss.
After a scoreless first period, St. Thomas took a 2-0 lead during the second period on a pair of power-play goals at 10:58 and 12:45 in the frame.
Late in the second period, Amherst senior Lindsey Harrington (Westford, MA) was taken down from behind on a break-away. The Lord Jeffs were awarded a penalty shot, which Harrington put away to cut the deficit in half heading into the second intermission.
Despite heavy pressure in the third period, and another shutout frame from the Amherst defense, the Lord Jeffs suffered a 2-1 set-back. Sophomore net-minder Caroline Hu (Cerritos, CA) made 21 saves in the loss, while Lauren Bradel turned away 26 of Amherst's 27 attempts for the Tommies.
After a 3-0 loss to Gustavus Adolphus yesterday, the Jeffs have suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time since January 5 and 6 of last year. Amherst can breath a sigh of relief knowing that after those losses last season, the team rolled off a 17-game unbeaten streak.
The Lord Jeffs will return to action on Friday evening when they host NESCAC foe Hamilton College. The puck for that match-up is set to drop at 7 p.m. at Orr Rink.
