AMHERST, Mass. – Erin Martin ’16 of the Amherst women’s ice hockey team was named NESCAC Player of the Week, as announced by the league office.
Martin opened the 2013-14 season with one goal and four assists in two games as the Jeffs defeated Hamilton 4-3 and 3-0, respectively.
In the first game of the season, the sophomore forward assisted on the game's first goal to give Amherst a 1-0 lead. Hamilton eventually tied the game at 3-3 in the third period until Martin found Courtney Baranek '14 for the game-winner with just 2:46 remaining in regulation.
In Saturday’s rematch against their NESCAC foe, Martin was involved in each of the Jeffs three scores. In the closing seconds of the first period, Martin sent a shot at goal that was rebounded by Tori Salmon ’15 who placed the puck in the back of the net. In the opening minutes of the third period, Martin skated down the middle of the ice and received a pass from Salmon, capping off a terrific play with her first score of the season. The forward wasn’t done yet and added another assist on the final score of the game to increase her total to four in two games.
The Jeffs return to the ice on Friday, Nov. 22 for a 7 p.m. road game at Wesleyan.
