AMHERST, Mass. – Head coach Jeff Matthews of the Amherst College women’s ice hockey team added a new member to his coaching staff with the addition of Katie Zimmerman.

"Coach (Liz) Gallinaro and I could not be happier to have Katie join our staff and program,” said Matthews. “Katie was an impressive player in our league, but more importantly, she possesses great integrity. She has a sharp mind for the game and a great passion to coach in the NESCAC, we are excited to have her join our Amherst women's ice hockey family."

Prior to Amherst, Zimmerman spent the 2013-14 season as an assistant coach for the SUNY Cortland women’s ice hockey team. She graduated from Hamilton College in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in communications and also enjoyed a successful four-year playing career. She led the NESCAC in goals scored during the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons en route to second team all-conference selections. Zimmerman was also named team MVP during her junior and senior seasons.

A native of Plymouth, Mich., Zimmerman earned first team all-state honors at Plymouth-Salem High School.
