BOSTON, Mass. – Keri Lambert ’13 finished sixth in the mile and contributed to a sixth-place, school-record showing in the Distance Medley Relay as the Amherst College women’s indoor track and field team raced against Division I, II and III competition at the NEICAAA New England Championships. Both performances notched top-10 times nationally for the division as the Jeffs totaled six team points, placing 25th of 34 teams and third among D-III programs.
Lambert shone individually in the mile, crossing in 4:53.65 as she trailed only MIT standout first-year Sarah Quinn (4:51.50) among D-III racers. Her time marked the eighth-fastest performance of the year in the division and was closely followed by teammate Lauren Almeida ’13, who placed 10th in 4:59.66.
The pair notched an even more impressive performance in the DMR as they teamed up with juniors Amy Dao and Naomi Bates to finish in 11:39.51. The time shattered the Amherst record by nearly five seconds and marks the fourth-lowest figure among D-III units this season and the sixth-fastest in Division III history.
Amherst’s 4x800-meter relay also enjoyed a strong showing, placing 11th in 9:23.28, while Bates wrapped up the Jeffs’ individual efforts by narrowly missing the finals of the 60 meters as she finished second among D-III racers in 7.88 seconds, good for 23rd nationally on the season.
Amherst will be back in action at the Tufts Last Chance Meet next Friday and Saturday.
