Jeffs Compete at Wesleyan Invitational

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Amherst College women’s indoor track & field team excelled at the Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday at the Wesleyan Bacon Field House.
The Jeffs performed exceptionally well in track events, grabbing four first-place finishes as well as sweeping the relay events.
Taylor Summers ’16 got things started by claiming the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.04 seconds.
In the 200 meter dash, Naomi Bates ’14 and Karen Blake ’17 took home first and second with times of 26:26 and 26.31, respectively, and rank sixth and seventh in the country.
Sarah Whelan ’17 claimed second in the 400 meters with a mark of 1:04.77.
Keelin Moehl ’16 and Victoria Hensley ’16 finished second and third, respectively, in the 600 meters with times of 1:42.27 and 1:43.67.
Sarah Foster ’16 claimed third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:30.87 and Kelli Ellingson ’15 finished second in 3:14.31 in the 1,000 meters.
Amherst swept the one mile run, taking the first five spots and seven of the top eight. Leading the way was Amy Dao ’14 with a time of 5:18.14. Hannah Herrera ’17 and Foster finished in 5:32.74 and 5:35.01, respectively, to grab second and third place.
The Jeffs followed up with another solid performance in the 3,000 meter run, taking first, second, and fourth. Lexi Sinclair ’16 paced the field with a time of 10:39.95. Elizabeth Briskin ’15 finished second in 10:42.38 and Lisa Walker ’14 took home fourth with a time of 11:02.89.
Kiana Herold ’17 earned third place in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 10:33.
The Jeffs 4x400 “A” relay squad, consisting of Blake, Whelan, Moehl and Herrera, won the event with a time of 4:16.62 and the distance medley relay “A” squad of Walker, Catherine Lowdon ’17, Dao and Briskin took first in 13:01.38.
The women’s long jump highlighted field events for the Jeffs, claiming first through third. Bates won with a distance of 5.53 meters followed by Herold in second (4.84m) and Summers in third (4.79m).
Amherst is back in action next Friday, Jan. 24 and will head to Boston, Mass. for the Terrier Invitational.
