Jeffs Get Back on Track with Wins Over Bowdoin

NEW HAVEN, CT – The Amherst College squash teams got back on the winning track with wins over Bowdoin College Friday evening at Yale University. The Lord Jeff women cruised to an 8-1 victory, while the Amherst men came out on the winning end of a 6-3 result.

The women’s match featured eight 3-0 wins for the 12th-ranked Lord Jeffs, with Lauren Gesswein picking up 21st-ranked Bowdoin’s lone point at No. 1. Evelyn Kramer ’14 (Brooklyn, NY) surrendered only six points to her opponent at No. 6, while Allie Dalglish ’11 (Fort Washington, PA) allowed only seven points at No. 4. Amherst (9-4) jumped two spots in the national rankings in the most recent poll.

Nineteenth-ranked Amherst pulled off the minor upset over 18th-ranked Bowdoin on the men’s side, as the Lord Jeffs improved to 7-6. Seven of the matches required only three games to determine a winner, but the No. 1 and No. 4 matchups went the distance. Bowdoin’s Andy Bernard rallied for a 3-2 win over Andrew Kriete ’11 (Chatham, NJ) in the top spot (11-9, 6-11, 10-12, 11-8, 11-7), but Charles Loesch-Quintin ’13 (Philadelphia, PA) returned the favor with a 3-2 victory over Bowdoin’s Will Fantini at No. 4 (11-8, 11-4, 7-11, 8-11, 11-7).

The Lord Jeffs will host Hamilton College and Tufts University tomorrow at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
