Lord Jeffs Upset by No. 15 Brown, 7-2

PROVIDENCE, RI – The Amherst College men’s squash team dropped its third straight match of the season, as the 11th-ranked Lord Jeffs were upset by 15th-ranked Brown University on the road. Amherst moves to 5-6 on the season, while the victory was Brown’s first of the year (1-6).

Several matches were close, but senior co-captain Mark Rapisarda (Brooklyn, NY) led the way for Amherst by storming back from a two-game deficit to pick up a victory in the No. 2 match, including a nail-biting 10-9 win in the fourth game. Junior Jerome Giovinazzo (Staten Island, NY) earned the other win for Amherst in the No. 3 hole, as he took care of Brown’s Ross Harrow in three games.

The Jeffs will have a chance to get back on track this weekend when they host a pair of winnable matches. Amherst welcomes eighth-ranked Cornell on Friday and will look to pull off an upset similar to last season’s 6-3 win over the higher-ranked Big Red. The Jeffs will then take on No. 30 Hobart on Sunday in an 11 a.m. match.
