AMHERST, MA – The 15th-ranked Amherst College men’s squash team fell to 17th-ranked Saint Lawrence University by a score of 6-3 Saturday afternoon at Davenport Courts. The Lord Jeffs drop to 3-3 on the season and will return to action Wednesday, Jan. 14, when they travel to take on eighth-ranked Dartmouth.

Amherst’s top two players earned convincing vitories, but only first-year Todd Lavine (Atherton, CA) would join his teammates in the win column. Senior Drew Blacker (Summit, NJ) earned a tough 9-6, 9-6, 9-4 win in the No. 1 match, while senior co-captain Jerome Giovinazzo (Staten Island, NY) cruised to a 9-0, 9-0, 9-3 win at No. 2. Lavine would drop the third game in the No. 6 match but take the rest for the 3-1 victory.

The highlight of the day was the back-and-forth battle between Amherst first-year Steve Severson (Mercer Island, WA) and Scott Redpath in the No. 3 match. After Redpath edged out a 10-8 win in the first game, Severson came back to win the second game, 9-5. The players again alternated games to make it 2-2, but it would be Redpath who sealed the deal with a 9-5 win in the final game.
