Men's Squash Advances to Consolation Finals

Amherst advanced to its second-straight Summers Cup consolation finals with a 6-3 win over Wesleyan.

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The 18th-ranked Amherst College men’s squash team earned a 6-3 win over 19th-ranked Wesleyan University Saturday morning in the consolation bracket of the CSA National Team Championships.

Amherst (12-8) will conclude its season tomorrow by taking on 21st-ranked Connecticut College Sunday at 9 a.m. The Lord Jeffs have already defeated the Camels twice this season, earning an 8-1 win at the Pioneer Valley Invitational before coming out on top by a score of 6-3 at the NESCAC Championships.

John Steele '14 headlined the top of the Wesleyan lineup with a 3-0 (11-2, 11-2, 11-7) sweep of Scott DeSantis ’15 (Sudbury, Mass.). Dave Kerr ’14 (Short Hills, N.J.) battled back from a 2-1 hole in the third slot, notching a pair of 11-5 and 11-6 wins in the fourth and fifth games to defeat Michael DeLalio '15, while Charles Loesch-Quintin ’13 (Philadelphia, Pa.) handed Alexander Nassikas '14 a 3-1 loss.

Todd Lavine ’12 (Atherton, Calif.) scored a 3-1 (11-13, 11-3, 11-4, 11-7) decision over Jeffrey Berman '14 at the fifth position, while Wesleyan’s Alex Nunez '14 took three straight from Max Kardon ’15 (Weston, Mass.).

Rodrigo Miranda ’14 (San Salvador, El Salvador) and Alex Southmayd ’15 (Boston,Mass.) each earned a pair of 3-1 wins in the seventh and eighth spots, respectively, while Blair Corbin '15 recorded Wesleyan’s only other point of the day with a 3-0 sweep of Matt Arnold ’12 (Larchmont, N.Y.).
