LEWISTON, Maine – David Kerr ’14 and Rodrigo Miranda ’14 each won a game but that was as close as the 22nd-ranked Amherst College men’s squash team would come to challenging No. 14 Bates College on Tuesday as the host Bobcats cruised to a 9-0 win over the Lord Jeffs.

At the No. 2 position, Kerr gave Bates’ Kristian Muldoon a strong fight, taking the third game but falling, 3-1 (11-6, 11-9, 9-11, 11-8). In the eighth spot, Miranda stole the second game from David Born before also suffering a 3-1 setback (11-5, 9-11, 11-6, 11-6).

Several other Jeffs would give their Bobcat counterparts strong challenges without winning a game. At No. 3, Scott DeSantis ’15 battled hard in two of three games but fell to Walter Cabot, 3-0 (11-9, 11-1, 11-9), while Stephen Cacouris ’16 played two hard stanzas against Filip Michalsky in the sixth spot before being swept (12-10, 11-9, 11-1).

In the bottom third of the Amherst lineup, Jake Albert ’15 gave Nabil Saleem three hard games at No. 7 but fell, 3-0 (11-8, 11-9, 11-8), and Kelvin Chen ’16 challenged Caran Arora in the final game but could not avoid a sweep (11-6, 11-5, 13-11).

Rounding out the day for the Jeffs, Max Kardon ’15 fell to Andy Cannon at No. 5, 3-0 (11-8, 11-7, 11-0), while R.J. Keating swept Alex Southmayd ’15 at fourth (11-5, 11-7, 11-4). Noah Browne ’16 couldn’t hang with Ahmed Abdel Khalek atop the table, falling at No. 1, 3-0 (11-7, 11-4, 11-6).

Amherst will complete its two-day tour of the Pine Tree State on Wednesday with an 11 a.m. matchup at Bowdoin College.
