AMHERST, Mass. – In similar fashion to Friday’s play, the Amherst College men’s squash team split a pair of 9-0 decisions on Saturday as action continued at the Pioneer Valley Invitational. The 23rd-ranked Jeffs opened the day in strong form by shutting out No. 21 Hamilton, but third-ranked Harvard was too much for the hosts in the nightcap, taking all but three games in the 9-0 win.

Against Hamilton, Noah Browne ’16 and Charles Loesch-Quintin ’13 picked up a pair of 3-0 wins at the top of the order over Martin Bawden ’14 and Marc Dudzik ’16, respectively. Taking a 2-1 lead in his third position match with Teddy Black ’15, David Kerr ’14 dropped the fourth game 12-10 before rebounding with an 11-6 triumph in the tiebreak.

Scott DeSantis ’15 earned a 3-1 (11-4, 11-8, 7-11, 11-8) decision over Joshua Wolport ’16 in the fourth position, while Alex Southmayd ’15 needed just three sets to dispatch of Harry Keeshan ’13. Max Kardon ’15 edged out Peter Harrison ’15, 3-1 (11-9, 11-9, 7-11, 11-7), in the sixth slot, while Stephen Cacouris ’16 and Jake Albert ’15 recorded 3-0 victories over Walker Lourie ’15 and Ted Nehrbas ’15, respectively. Trailing 2-1 in a ninth position match-up with Austin Engros ’15, Rodrigo Miranda ’14 took the last two games by scores of 11-4 and 13-11 to ensure the clean sheet for Amherst.

The Harvard match saw less drama as the Crimson won in three games everywhere except the bottom two spots in the lineup. Playing at No. 8, Miranda once again found himself in a tight matchup as he took a thrilling 12-10 second game from Jake Matthews ’16 and tied it at 2-2 with an 11-8 triumph in the fourth before falling 11-5 in the finale. The only other Jeff to take a game was Kelvin Chen in the ninth slot as he won the second before falling in four to Peter Janulis ’16 (11-7, 8-11, 13-11, 11-3).

Amherst will wrap up invitational play with two more matches Sunday, facing No. 24 Wesleyan at 11 a.m. and Boston University at 1 p.m.
