AMHERST, Mass. – David Kerr ’14 and Scott DeSantis ’15 triumphed at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, but they were the only Lord Jeffs to find the win column on Tuesday as No. 18 Brown University topped 23rd-ranked Amherst, 7-2.

Kerr had the most impressive showing for Amherst, as the junior cruised past Brown’s Jack Blasberg ’16, taking the opening game 11-8 before dominant 11-2 and 11-0 wins completed the sweep. DeSantis battled Chris Holter ’13 in a back-and-forth affair full of momentum swings, taking the second, third and fifth games for a 3-2 (4-11, 11-5, 11-9, 2-11, 11-4) win.

In the day’s most dramatic matchup, Charles Loesch-Quintin ’13 nearly pulled off a thrilling comeback win over the Bears’ Eamon O’Connor ’13, posting 11-9 wins in the third and fourth after falling behind 2-0, but O’Connor outlasted the Amherst co-captain in a long final game, 12-10.

Atop the lineup for the Jeffs, Noah Browne ’16 won a marathon second but couldn’t take another game from Blake Reinson ’14, falling, 3-1 (11-5, 12-14, 11-6, 11-7). Jake Albert ’15 also avoided the sweep at No. 8, winning the opener but falling to Avi Bhavnani ’15, 3-1 (9-11, 11-3, 11-6, 11-9).

Amherst returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 26 at the Little Three Championships, hosted by Williams. The Jeffs will face Wesleyan at 1 p.m. before a 3 p.m. tilt with the Ephs.
