AMHERST, Mass. - The Amherst men’s squash team picked up its seventh win of the season with a decisive 8-1 victory over Stanford University at Davenport Courts on Friday afternoon.

The Cardinals’ Mark Wieland ’14 earned the visitors’ lone decision, rallying from a 2-1 hole to defeat David Kerr ’14, 3-2 (11-2, 8-11, 10-12, 11-3, 11-9), at the top of the lineup. Tied at 1-1 in his second position match-up with Tyler Strand ’15, Scott DeSantis ’15 took the final two games by scores of 11-8 and 11-9.

Alex Southmayd ’15 made quick work of Nick Xu ’16 in the third slot, 3-0 (11-6, 11-9, 11-3), while Max Kardon ’15 dispatched of John Han ’15, 3-0 (11-4, 11-2, 11-4). Stephen Cacouris ’16 also posted a shutout with a 3-0 (11-7, 11-6, 11-9) decision over Keebuhn Park ’14 in the fifth spot, while Jake Albert ’15 won at six by a score of 3-0 (11-8, 11-5, 11-5).

Dropping the first two games of his match with Matt Duhamel ’15, Kelvin Chen ’16 fought back for a 3-2 (11-4, 8-11, 11-2, 8-11, 11-2) triumph, while Nick Sorrentino ’13 also overcame a slow start, taking his eighth position match, 3-2 (11-7, 9-11, 10-12, 11-3, 11-9). Rodrigo Miranda ’14 rounded out the order with a win by default at No. 9.

Amherst returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 26 at the Little Three Championships hosted by Williams.
