Jeffs Fall to George Washington, 7-2

AMHERST, Mass - Max Kardon ’15 and Jake Albert ’15 each picked up a win but the 22nd-ranked Amherst men’s squash team fell to 0-2 on the season with a 7-2 loss to No. 16 George Washington.

Dropping the first frame of his fifth position match with Larkin Brinkworth ’14 (11-9) Kardon ripped of a pair of 11-4 and 11-8 wins. After getting shut out 11-0 in the fourth, the sophomore regrouped, notching an 11-5 victory in the tiebreak. Albert’s eighth position showdown with Player Haynes ’13 also went the distance, with the Jeff edging out a 3-2 (11-8, 6-11, 11-9, 5-11, 11-9) decision.

Islam El-Fiky ’13 secured a 3-1 (12-10, 11-9, 4-11, 13-11) win over first-year Noah Browne at the top of the lineup, while Omar Sobhy ’13 defeated Alex Southmayd ’15 in straight sets. Ahmed Abdel-Latif ’16 closed out the top three spots with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Scott DeSantis ’15.

Down 2-1 to Charles Loesch-Quintin ’13, Reiss notched a pair of 11-6 and 11-7 triumphs to wrap up a come-from-behind win in the fourth position, while Reid Breck ’16 picked up a victory over David Kerr ’14 in one of five, five-set matches on the afternoon.

Sam Ehrlich ’13 swept Kelvin Chen, 3-0 (11-7, 11-6, 12-10) in the seventh slot, while Browning Platt ’16 handled Steve Cacouris ’16, 3-0 (11-3, 11-5, 11-7), at the bottom of the order.

Amherst returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 8 against Northeastern.
