Jeffs Fall to Middlebury, 8-1

BrowneMIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The 22nd-ranked Amherst men's squash team dropped an 8-1 decision to 19th-ranked Middlebury on Tuesday night in its first road match of the season.

The Jeffs fall to 1-2 on the year after their second consecutive loss. The Panthers are now 5-3 following the win.

Noah Browne '16 continued his impressive sophomore campaign, earning Amherst's only win from the No. 1 position. Browne defeated Parker Hurst '14, 3-0, by scores of 11-7, 11-9, 11-6. He is now 3-0 on the season from the No. 1 spot.

Scott DeSantis '15 picked up a win from the No. 2 position and took an early 1-0 lead in the match. However, Andrew Jung '16 retaliated by edging the junior in the second and third games, 11-8 and 11-9, respectively, before earning a decisive 11-2 win in game three.

The No. 3 court featured a competitive match between David Kerr '14 and Andrew Cadienhead '17 but the first-year from Middlebury pulled away with the 3-0 win by scores of 11-9, 11-8, and 11-9.

Darian Ehsani '17 jumped out to a 1-0 lead against Reed Palmer '15 on the No. 8 court after a hard-fought 13-11 win but Palmer rallied for three straight to claim the match.

The Jeffs return to the courts on Friday, Jan. 17 and will host the Pioneer Valley Invitational beginning at 11 a.m. against Stanford followed by a 3 p.m. contest versus Columbia. Amherst will play six matches in all during the tournament, which concludes on Sunday, Jan. 19.
