Jeffs Fall to No. 19 Brown, 7-2

browneYALE4.jpgBOSTON, Mass. - The 22nd-ranked Amherst men’s squash team fell to 6-11 on the season with a 7-2 loss to No. 19 Brown University at the 2014 College Squash Association (CSA) Team Championships.

Competing in the Summers Cup (C Division) the Jeffs dropped into the consolation bracket where they will face the loser of No. 23 Colby and No. 18 Wesleyan on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 3 p.m.

Picking up one of two Jeff victories, Noah Browne ’16 outlasted Blake Reinson ’14 in five sets. Dropping the first frame 11-2, Browne notched an 11-8 victory in the second. Falling 11-7 in the third, he closed out the match with a pair of 11-7 and 12-10 decisions.

Jack Blasberg ’16 downed Scott DeSantis ’15 in the second position, 3-1 (11-4, 11-7, 7-11, 11-9), while Oliver Booth ’16 needed just three sets to get past David Kerr ’14, 3-0 (11-3, 11-1, 11-7). Foster Hoff ’16 dispatched of Alex Southmayd, 3-1 (8-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-8), while Alexander Baldock ’17 and Tod Holberton ’14 swept Max Kardon ’15 and Michael Groot ’17 in the fifth and sixth positions.

Accounting for Amherst’s only other triumph, Darian Ehsani ’17 shut out Patrick O’Neill ’14. Taking the first frame by a score of 11-8, Ehsani posted identical 11-6 victories over the next two sets to seal the win. Nick Talbott ’15 turned away Jeremy Van ’17, 3-0 (11-3, 11-7, 11-7), while Charles Lebovitz ’14 held his own at the bottom of the order, defeating Rodrigo Miranda ’14, 3-0 (11-6, 11-4, 11-9).
