Men's Squash Defeats Northeastern, 9-0

AMHERST, Mass. - The Jeffs men's squash team won 9-0 against Northeastern on Saturday, Nov. 16 in their 2013-14 season opener.

Seven Jeffs swept their competition with Noah Browne '16 and David Kerr '14 claiming wins from the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, respectively. Browne defeated Evan Jacobson '17 in the first game, 11-9, and followed up with a decisive 11-1 win in the second frame, and a 11-6 win in game three to seal the win. Kerr edged out Northeastern's Max Kachur 14-12 in game one before notching 11-7 and 11-3 wins to complete the sweep.

In the No. 3 position, Alex Southmayd '15 played in the most competitive match of the day against Stan Berenshtein '15. The first two games went extra points with Southmayd claiming a 15-13 win in game one followed by 13-11 win in the second frame but Berenshtein rallied to take the next two games and tie the match at 2-2. In the fifth and decisive game, Southmayd pulled away to take an 11-9 win and the match.

Michael Groot '17 and Jeremy Van '17 won their first collegiate matches, while Kelvin Chen '16, Rodrigo Quan Miranda '14, and Thornton Ellis '16 all swept their opponents.

The Jeffs return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 6 and will host Yale at 2 p.m.
