Amherst Tops Local Rival Smith College 9-0

NORTHAMPTON, MA – The 17th-ranked Amherst College women’s squash team improved to 3-0 on the young season this evening with a 9-0 rout over local rival Smith College. Amherst cruised to the victory without surrendering even a single game in any of the nine matches played.

Amherst’s top player, junior Hayley Milbourn (Baltimore, MD) defeated Margaret Olivderio in the feature match, winning 11-3, 11-0 and 11-4. Rookie Chandler Lusardi (New York, NY) was equally impressive with a win over Joanne Poon from Smith in the number two match.

Sophomore Kate Savage (Philadelphia, PA) laid down one of the most dominant performances of the evening, topping Anna Reznickova 11-1, 11-1, and 11-2. The only Lord Jeff player to allow fewer points was first-year Ginny Wheeler (Bryn Mawr, PA) who gave up just two points in a win in the number six match.

Also picking up wins for Amherst over Smith were Anne Piper (Bronxville, NY), Mimi Bell (Shaker Heights, OH), Mary Katherine McNeil (Greenwich, CT), Sarah Nyirjesy (Rydal, PA) and Megan Clower (Bryn Mawr, PA).

The Lord Jeffs will break for holidays following this evening’s win, before returning to compete in the Williams Five-Woman Tournament on January 2-3, 2010.
