WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – The Amherst College women’s squash team got back into form this weekend at the Five Women Tournament hosted by Williams College. Amherst entered a pair of five-member teams into the 10-team tournament, and went a combined 3-5 during the weekend.

The two Lord Jeff squads kicked off action on Friday night when they played one another to a 3-2 match at home. The Amherst-2 group got the better of Amherst-1 in the opener, by squeaking out a pair of five-game matches to take the result.

On Saturday morning, the two groups traveled to Williams College where Amherst-1 kicked off the action against Bowdoin-2. The Lord Jeffs rallied to take the match 4-1, including a sweep of the top-four matches. Senior co-captain Libby Martin (St. Louis, MO) was particularly impressive as she won 9-1, 9-2, and 9-0.

In the second round of matches on Saturday, Amherst-2 also picked up an impressive 4-1 win over Bowdoin-2, while the Amherst-1 squad suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Middlebury. In the Amherst-2 match, the Lord Jeffs and Polar Bears split the top two matches, before Amherst rallied to take the 3-4-5 spots. Amherst-1’s Martin was the lone Lord Jeff to pick up a win against Middlebury.

Amherst-2 closed out Saturday’s action with a match against Williams-3. The Ephs took a 4-1 result, with Amherst first-year Mimi Bell (Shaker Heights, OH) pulling out the lone point in a four-game match.

On Sunday, Amherst-1 closed the tournament in the early round of competition with a 4-1 loss to Williams-3. Martin was once again the only Lord Jeff to win her match against the Ephs. The result brought her individual record to 4-0 on the weekend.

The Amherst-2 squad wrapped up its weekend with a tough 4-1 loss to Middlebury in the late round of action on Sunday. First-year Hayley Milbourn (Baltimore, MD) won her match in the top spot for Amherst.

Amherst returns to action on Saturday at the Yale Invitation when they Lord Jeffs take on Middlebury College.
