Amherst Falls to National Powerhouse Yale, 9-0

Mimi Bell
Sophomore Mimi Bell earned a 9-7 win in the first set of the No. 7 match.
AMHERST, MA – The 17th-ranked Amherst College women’s squash team suffered a 9-0 loss to fifth-ranked Yale University Friday morning, dropping the Lord Jeffs to 4-2 on the season. Amherst returns to action Saturday for a 1 p.m. match with Saint Lawrence University.

Sophomore Mimi Bell (Shaker Heights, OH) stood out above the rest for Amherst by taking the first set against Yale’s Kaitlin Vinci in the No. 7 match by a 9-7 margin. Vinci came back to take the next three sets for the 3-1 win, but Bell was the lone Lord Jeff to earn a point on the day.

Also putting up a good fight was sophomore Allie Dalglish (Fort Washington, PA) in the No. 1 match. After Yale’s Sarah Toomey edged out a 10-8 victory in the first set, Dalglish continued to battle and kept things close, ultimately falling in three sets (10-8, 9-4, 9-7).

Yale entered the match with a deceiving 1-3 record, as the Bulldogs narrowly lost to top-ranked Princeton and have dropped a pair of 5-4 matches to second-ranked Penn.
