AMHERST, MA – The Amherst College women’s squash team opened the 2009 Smith/Mount Holyoke Invitational with an 8-1 win over Colby College to improve to 7-7 on the season. The Lord Jeffs will host Wellesley Saturday at 9:30 a.m. before hosting a pair of matches on Sunday to wrap up the tournament.

Sophomore Allie Dalglish (Fort Washington, PA) fell into an early hole in the No. 1 match by dropping the first game and facing game point in the second. With her back to the wall, Dalglish battled back to tie things up at one game apiece before winning the third and fourth games convincingly.

First-year Kate Savage (Philadelphia, PA) was also involved in a hard-fought match as the Jeffs’ No. 3 player. After taking a 9-6 victory in the first game, Colby’s Maddie Dufour evened things up with a 9-7 game-two win. The third game came down to the wire, but it was Savage who edged out the 10-9 win before finishing off the match in the fourth game, 9-6.

Also involved in a tight match was first-year Anna Scheidt (Fort Lee, NJ), whose 9-6, 9-5, 9-5 win came in the No. 4 matchup against the Mules’ Jess Vogel. Jessica Kravetz was the lone Colby player to pick up a win on the day, as she earned a 9-4, 9-0, 9-2 victory over Amherst first-year Caroline Dreyspool (New York, NY) in the No. 9 match.
