Lord Jeffs Earn 7-2 Win Over George Washington

PRINCETON, NJ – The 13th-ranked Amherst College women’s squash team earned a 7-2 win over 16th-ranked George Washington University Saturday morning in a Women’s National Championship consolation match held at Princeton University.

Competing in the Kurtz Cup (B Division), the Lord Jeffs improved to 16-7 on the year. They will close out their season tomorrow morning when they take on either Middlebury College or Columbia University at 8:30 a.m. in the consolation finals.

Earning come-from-behind wins for the Lord Jeffs were Chandler Lusardi ’13 (New York, NY) and Anna Scheidt ’12 (Fort Lee, NJ). Lusardi was facing deficits of 1-0 and 2-1 in the No. 2 match, but she battled back each time and won the deciding game, 11-6. Scheidt suffered an 11-6 loss in the first game of the No. 5 matchup, but she came back to take the next three from Tiffany Hingley (13-11, 11-4, 11-5).

Picking up impressive 3-0 wins for Amherst were Anne Piper ’13 (Bronxville, NY), Kate Savage ’12 (Philadelphia, PA) and Lena Rice ’14 (Philadelphia, PA) in matches three, four and eight, respectively. Accounting for the Lord Jeffs’ other two points were Mimi Bell ’11 (Shaker Heights, OH) at No. 7 and Caitlin Demkin ’11 (Warren, NJ) at No. 9, with each player winning by a 3-1 margin.
