Amherst will face Bowdoin in tomorrow's Walker Cup (C Division) consolation match.

BOSTON, Mass. - The 18th-ranked Amherst women’s squash team fell to 12-10 on the year after dropping a hard-fought 5-4 Walker Cup (C Division) semifinal match to #19 George Washington at the CSA National Team Championships.

Amherst will face fellow NESCAC rival Bowdoin College in a consolation match slated for 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26, while the Colonials advance to face Wesleyan University. Earlier this season, the Lord Jeffs dropped a 6-3 decision to the Polar Bears at the NESCAC Championships hosted by Trinity College.

Jacqueline Shea ’14 headlined the top of the lineup with a 3-0 sweep of Amherst’s Chandler Lusardi ’13 (New York, N.Y.), while the Jeffs’ Arielle Lehman ’15 (Greenwich, Conn.) and Kate Savage ’12 (Philadelphia, Pa.) dispatched of their Colonial counterparts in the second and third positions. Trailing 2-1 in her match with Kelly Barnes ’14, Savage rallied, scoring a pair of 11-9 and 11-7 wins in the fourth and fifth games, while Savage took three-straight from Lauren Mathieu ’12.

George Washington’s Elizabeth Tapley ’14 rebounded from a 2-0 deficit in the fourth spot en route to a, 3-2 (9-11, 8-11, 11-4, 11-6, 11-9), triumph over Evelyn Kramer ’14 (Brooklyn, N.Y.), while Caroline Shumway ’12 swept Anna Scheidt ’12 (Fort Lee, N.J.), 3-0.

Down 2-0 in the sixth position, Amherst’s Sarah Nyirjesy ’13 (Rydal, Pa.) rallied to tie her match with Tiffany Hingley ’12 before dropping the fifth, 11-9, while Maya Nair ’14 won another close one for the Colonials with a, 3-2 (11-8, 10-12, 10-12, 11-6, 11-9), triumph over Lena Rice ’14 (Philadelphia, Pa.).

The Jeffs’ Mary Katherine McNeill ’13 (Greenwich, Conn.) and Ginny Wheeler ’13 (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) held their own at the bottom of the order, notching a pair of 3-0 wins over Adriana Calderon ’14 and Rebecca Imrich ’14 in the eighth and ninth spots, respectively.
