Savage Leads Jeffs on Day 2 of CSA Tournament

Kate Savage '12 advanced to the Holleran Division's
consolation finals by winning three consecutive matches.

AMHERST, Mass. – Kate Savage ’12 led the Amherst College squash teams on the second day of the CSA Individual Championships by posting a 2-0 record in the consolation bracket of the Holleran Division. The three-day national tournament hosted by Amherst will conclude Sunday.

Savage dropped her first match of the weekend but has since gone 3-0 to advance to the finals of the Holleran Division’s consolation bracket. She began her Saturday with a 3-0 win over Brigette Tousignant of Saint Lawrence University, posting game scores of 11-8, 11-9 and 11-7.

The Amherst senior captain then posted a 3-1 victory over Williams College’s Ellie O’Neill, winning each of the first two games by a score of 11-8 before closing things out in the fourth, 11-9. Savage will wrap up her outstanding career on Sunday when she takes on Trinity College’s Andrea Echeverria at 10:45 a.m.

Wrapping up her junior season was Amherst’s top player, Chandler Lusardi ’13. The Lord Jeff standout kept things close during a competitive match against Williams College’s Laura Henry, but it was the Ephs who picked up the 3-0 win with game scores of 11-9, 11-7 and 11-7. Also closing out her season was first-year Arielle Lehman, who suffered a 3-0 loss to Sarah Crosky of Brown University (11-6, 11-7, 11-6).

On the men’s side, Amherst first-year Scott DeSantis had his impressive debut season come to a close with a 3-1 loss to Saint Lawrence University’s Vir Seth in the Molloy Division. The first two games came down to the wire, with Seth winning the first (13-11) and DeSantis winning the second (12-10). Seth took control from there and advanced in the consolation bracket by taking the final two games, 11-6 and 11-7.
