Jeff Women Can't Stop Brown, Fall 9-0

AMHERST, Mass. – First-years Khushy Aggarwal and Taryn Clary took their matches to five games but that was as close as the 19th-ranked Amherst College women's squash team could come to a win against No. 9 Brown University, as the Bears handled the Jeffs, 9-0, on Tuesday afternoon.

While no Jeffs found the win column, the day was not without drama. Clary seemed poised to triumph at No. 8, taking the first two games from Sarah Beresford ’13, but the Brown senior battled back for a gutsy 3-2 (10-12, 7-11, 11-4, 11-4, 11-5) win.

In the next spot up, Khushy Aggarwal ’16 also took a tight opening game, beating Skylar Murphy ’16, 13-11. After Murphy cruised in the second, 11-2, Aggarwal came back with an 11-8 win, but Murphy was too much the rest of the way, winning 11-7 and 11-3 for the 3-2 win.

Chandler Lusardi ’13 and Corri Johnson ’16 were the other Jeffs in the top nine to avoid sweeps as Lusardi started off the No. 1 match with Dori Rahbar ’14 in encouraging fashion before falling, 3-1 (9-11, 11-5, 11-5, 11-8). At No. 6, Johnson managed a win in the third game before her eventual 3-1 (11-8, 11-3, 7-11, 11-8) setback to Isabel Pitaro ’16.

Amherst returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 26 at the Little Three Championships, hosted by Williams. The Jeffs will face Wesleyan at 1 p.m. before a 3 p.m. tilt with the Ephs.
